Led by Leanne Hildebrand, an artist well-known for her Chigiri-e art
In this workshop, students will learn the basics of Chigiri-e and the 4 different kinds of Washi paper. Chigiri-e is a traditional Japanese art using hand-dyed Japanese paper called Washi. For this art, we will tear papers into different shapes and sizes, and then glue them together to create beautiful art works. The techniques are similar to painting, except we will use papers instead of paint as our colours. Visually it looks like an oil painting or water colour painting, but it is all made with paper.
All materials including Washi paper, rice glue, cardboard and the different sizes of brushes will be provided.
